Samuel joined the Hellam Varon team in 2018 with a varied background in both the private and public sectors of accounting and small business management. Since joining Hellam Varon, Samuel’s focus has been on comprehensive tax planning and consulting services to closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals with complex tax issues. Samuel specializes in assisting businesses in strategic planning for multi-state and international tax issues. In some cases, he coordinates with our international affiliates to help clients find tax advisors in other countries when necessary. 

Before becoming a CPA, Samuel worked in the wine industry, first for his family’s winery until it was sold and then in developing and managing a new operation for a much larger winery. These commercial experiences helped to develop Samuel’s ability to understand and advise his clients with a well-rounded and unique perspective.  

When he is not working on complex business returns, Samuel has a variety of interests, not the least of which is time spent with his husband, Chris. Samuel speaks several foreign languages well and is one of the two million people worldwide who speaks Esperanto, a language created in Poland in the 1880s. Practicing languages has helped him make friends around the world! He also likes to write in his spare time and is part of a poetry collective. A big fan of opera, he has traveled to many cities for the performances (but of course only wearing Reeboks, his signature shoe!). With his great intellect, ready laugh and sense of fun, Samuel fit in at Hellam Varon from the start.
