Emily Zhao

When Emily joined Hellam Varon in early 2016, she brought with her a background that began on the other side of the world. From her hometown of Jinzhou in northeast China, Emily travelled to Hong Kong for her bachelor’s degree study and then to the United States to complete her master’s degree in accounting in 2012. Before relocating to Seattle, Emily spent her first two years in accounting working for a firm in South Carolina, where she focused on expatriation tax, specializing in helping U.S. citizens living and working overseas with their tax issues.

Emily came by her interest in accounting naturally as she enjoys the problem-solving aspects of tax. She comments, “No single tax situation is the same, and you always face new challenges. Tax is a lifetime of learning!” She specializes in individual, estate, trust, and gift tax compliance and planning, as well as tax projections and resolving IRS tax disputes.

Of the firm, Emily says, “After being here these many years, I can say I feel really fortunate to be a part of Hellam Varon. I enjoy working with every single person here. Hellam Varon is a fun place to work, even during the busiest season of the year.” After work, Emily enjoys spending time hiking, jogging, swimming, yard work, and any other activity that includes her husband and two children.

Hellam Varon is a fun place to work, even during the busiest season of the year.”
