Brian Sears

When Brian joined the Hellam Varon team as our first Director of Technology in 2014, he brought with him over 30 years of experience in managing IT and telecommunications in a variety of industries. His particular emphasis is in information and infrastructure security and cyber intelligence. Managing technology solutions for both the client experience and the firm’s staff, Brian has continued to enhance the firm’s systems, ensuring the safe handling of both client and firm information.

Brian began his career in technology as a cryptologist in special intelligence communications with the U.S. Navy, laying the foundation for his focus on security. With 10 years of military service under his belt, Brian met and married his wife, Paula, and they followed the technology boom out to Seattle. He spent his first years in Seattle working in healthcare and biomedical research IT administration before making the jump to the accounting industry in 2001. Brian’s role in the firm is critical in this technology driven world. His background also covers threat research, operating system and network security, communications intelligence, security engineering architecture, incident response, and cyber law.

When Brian isn’t sitting in front of a computer screen, he can be found outside camping or woodworking, and he has a passion for photography, especially wildlife and nature. Brian is also an amateur Ham Radio afficionado.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
