When Meliny Gonzalez came to our firm in 2008, she was looking for a work environment that would allow her to grow in expertise and knowledge while supporting a work/life balance. She found just what she was looking for at Hellam Varon! Meliny began her accounting career at a national firm where she spent four years getting the basics under her belt. Since she has been with Hellam Varon, Meliny has developed a tax practice that focuses on customizing tax strategies for business clients. Additionally, she spearheads the firm's State and Local Tax group and is a member of the firm's International Tax group.
Meliny is passionate about growing the relationships with her clients. "I think clients appreciate that I have a sense of humor", she says. She also has a passion for giving back to the community. Meliny recognizes everyone has challenges in life, and her own challenges have helped her understand how she can help others. However, most important of all for Meliny is family, especially her daughter, Anne-Marie. She comments, "Support of famiy is what it's all about. When we help each other be the best we can be, everybody wins whether we're at home or at work."
When Meliny leaves the office, she can often be found on the volleyball court, on long walks with her dog Sophie, whipping up a batch of outrageous cookies, or just hanging out with Anne-Marie. During the school year, she opens her home to foreign exchange students because she likes having a full house of young people. When asked about why she joined Hellam Varon, Meliny says "It's like being home." We are fortunate that Meliny chose to be a part of the Hellam Varon family!
