Greg Monk began his journey with Hellam Varon in 2016, bringing with him 14 years of public accounting experience. Over the years, he has developed a passion for building relationships with small to medium-sized businesses and their owners. Early in his career, Greg gravitated to the audit side of public accounting and now enjoys a hands-on, collaborative rapport with his clients. He appreciates working with business owners who look to their CPA for advice on improving their companies. Approaching his work as more than just an auditor, Greg searches for ways to add business advisory value to his client engagements.
Greg found his way to public accounting quite naturally when he demonstrated an affinity for math in school, preferring the analytic side of accounting to pure mathematics. While much of his public accounting background came from firms in Texas and New Mexico, Greg decided on a change of scenery (and weather) in 2015, prompting a move to Seattle. When asked why Hellam Varon, Greg comments he was impressed by the super friendly people, the feeling of teamwork, the longevity of the staff, and the work/life balance. "I like that the firm does not promote individual silos, but instead emphasizes what the firm as a whole can accomplish."
Greg grew up in a family that travelled, and he has carried that wanderlust through his life. In 2013, he took a year off from work to travel the world, visiting more countries than most people do in a lifetime! Greg also enjoys attending sporting events (especially baseball), hiking, frequenting the ferry system to the area islands, and appreciating good food and good beer. Greg is a terrific addition to the team. With all of that travel in his blood, we are so glad he chose to put down roots at Hellam Varon!
